Did the P-51 Mustang have bad cockpit visibility?

P51 mustang was quite famous airplane used in the world war 2. First of all, the cockpit where the pilot would sit had a significant amount of metal bars for the integral design, called a framed canopy. Pilots disliked it since it was challenging to look out of it, in particular, at the rear side. It called the “cage” in which pilots were trapped.

Solved this Problem? British engineers created Malcolm Hood. This was a new design of a canopy, which made it easy for the pilot to view in all directions. This design was changed a lot so that the pilot can fly in a better way.

Later on in 1944, a new type of airplane P51 D was produced with a totally stunning shape of canopy known as bubble canopy. This canopy is rounded like a bubble thus providing the pilot a wide and clear horizon in all his views. All it required was for the pilot to locate the enemy and kill him.

Such changes made the P51D the best plane of the war. Pilots were able to move the plane more faster because whatever could be seen easily. The idea of bubble canopy became used in other planes as well such as the P47 Thunderbolt and Spitfire.
